COSTA RICA GEISHA

20.00

The Geisha Varietal is very well known for being super delicate and floral in the cup. It originated from Ethiopia but the varietal really took off in Panama.  The Geishas from Panama continually fetch record prices at Auction.  This past year a Naturally  Processed Geisha coffee from Panama Earned $601/lb for green, unroasted coffee!

Once Exporters and Roasters saw the success of the Geisha in Panama the varietal started to spread around central and South America.  Now you can find Geisha's from Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Colombia.  The varietal is typically a low yielding plant so there wasn't much incentive for Farmers to grow it.  However, once people started to taste the intricate notes the varietal possessed, the coffee took off and farmers started isolating lots just for Geisha, knowing they could get a much higher price despite the low yield.

This particular lot comes from the Tarrazu Region of Costa Rica.  The Tarrazu region is a Western Valley that sits near the center of the country just outside the capital of San Jose.  It is Naturally Processed at the Candelilla Micro Mill which is owned by a small collection of farmers.  It was grown by Ricardo Hernandez on his farm, which has an altitude of roughly 4,800 ft.
