COSTA RICA GEISHA

30.00

The Geisha Varietal is very well known for being super delicate and floral in the cup. It originated from Ethiopia but the varietal really took off in Panama.  The Geishas from Panama continually fetch record prices at Auction.

This very special coffee comes from producer Carlos Barrantes located in the west valley of Costa Rica. Don Carlos has been working in coffee almost his entire life, but in the early 2010’s he decided to go and work independently, and only focus on the highest end of specialty coffee. He and his wife Diana own five small farms and the La Perla de Café Micro-mill, and only produce about 300 bags a year. Their dedication to quality and strict standards on processing, means they are always focusing on quality over quantity. For example, they work with the same group of pickers every year. A group of 45 indigenous people from Panama travel to the farm for work during busy season and return annually. Working with the same pickers every year is rare, and it allows the Barrantes family to maintain consistency and quality as the pickers already know to only pick the ripest of cherries. In Costa Rica the local term for this is “Sangre de Toro” or “bulls blood.”
