KENYA ORETI ESTATE PEABERRY

18.00

This is our first Kenyan offering of the year and it is a peaberry!

A Peaberry is a natural mutation of the bean inside in the cherry.  Normally beans grow two to a cherry and press up against each other as they grow into their traditional shape.  In a peaberry, there is only one.

On top of all that, this comes from the producer, Boyce Harries, and his Oreti Estate. The few Kenyan coffees we have had in the past all come from this producer.  There is a big emphasis on quality and specialty on this farm.  The farms have been in the Harries family for generations.  And there are roughly 40 permanent workers on the farm who have access to clean water and electricity, in addition to housing. There also is a school and social hall for the year-round workers.

This lot is a selection of Peaberries amongst the other varieties grown on the farm.  Roughly 5% of all coffee cherries are Peaberry so this a tremendous amount of work on the producers part!
