Our matcha is sourced directly from a family farm in the small town of Wazuka, just outside of Kyoto. Founded by Daiki San and his family their mission is to focus on small specialty-grown tea farms. They started their own company called D: Matcha, where you can visit the farms, and do tastings much like a coffee cupping. We had the pleasure of visiting the D: Matcha team in Japan and tasting all the different types of Matcha that Daiki had on the farm.
They started their journey by first being apprentices to those who have mastered the art of cultivating and manufacturing Japanese green tea. This allowed them to develop a personal connection with the key figures from each step of the tea production process. From 2017, D: Matcha staff started to cultivate their own tea farms in Wazuka. The size of these tea farms is roughly 3 hectares.
The terrain of Wazuka also works in favor of producing high-quality green tea leaves. The natural fog covers the tea trees and reduces the amount of sunlight. Through leveraging the natural landscape, Wazuka is now well-known in Japan for its high-quality green tea leaf production.
This spirit and dedication is the core of D: Matcha's Japanese green tea. We hope you enjoy their craft.
